二、Chinese New Year Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade. The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors. The sacrifice to the ancestors, the most vital of all the rituals, united the living members with those who had passed away. Departed relatives are remembered with great respect because they were responsible for laying the foundations for the fortune and glory of the family. The presence of the ancestors is acknowledged on New Year's Eve with a dinner arranged for them at the family banquet table. The spirits of the ancestors, together with the living, celebrate the onset of the New Year as one great community. The communal feast called ＂surrounding the stove＂ or weilu. It symbolizes family unity and honors the past and present generations.

1。年是什么？最初的概念“年”是与农作物生长的周期性和人类生产的劳动的周期性相关联的，庄稼获得好收成，百姓们不免要庆祝一番，久而久之，就成了一个节日。所以年是收获的象征，所谓“五谷熟曰年”是也。另一种传说是：相传在远古时代，有一种凶猛的怪兽叫“年”，一年四季都在深海里，但逢新旧岁之交，便出来糟蹋壮稼，伤害人畜，百姓叫苦连天。有一次，它又跑到村庄里为非作歹，被一家门口晾的大红衣服吓跑了。到了另一处，又被灯光吓得抱头鼠窜。于是人们掌握了“年”怕声音、怕红色、怕火光的弱点。每至年末岁首，人们就在家门口贴红联、放鞭炮、挂红灯，院子里烧柴禾、拢旺火，用菜刀剁菜肉，发出声音把“年”吓得逃回海里，不再危害人畜。久而久之，便成了过年的种种习俗。
到了大年初一，亲朋好友就互相拜访，祝贺没有受到“年”的伤害，逃过“年”的这一难关，所以“过年”又称“年关”，这也是拜年的由来。
2·旧“年俗”的传承
“每逢春节，最先给家乡带来欢乐气氛的是武强年画。年画在这里铺天盖地，争奇斗艳，直至每一个村子里每一户有购买力的人家对年画的需求达到饱和为止。少了年画，这些黄土平原的年节，会变得多么难耐和凋零。”这是著名作家铁凝对儿时春节的回忆。
最早的年画可以追溯到汉代，千百年来，年画是春节必不可少的。
一进腊月，就闻见了年的气息。腊月初八吃腊八粥，腊月二十三祭灶神，“二十四扫房子”，二十五到二十八采购年货，二十九祭祖先，大年三十放鞭炮，吃年夜饭，守岁。大年初一穿新衣服，拜年讨压岁钱。一直到正月十六，年才进入尾声。
3·正月的由来
中国农历新年的第一天，民间习惯称这一天为正月初一。农历的第一个月不叫一月而叫“正月”，这是怎么一回事呢？在中国古代，每年以哪一个月当第一个月，有时是随着朝代的更换而变化的。在汉朝以前，每换一个朝代，就往往把月份的次序改一次。据说，商朝把夏朝规定的12月算作每年的第一个月，而周朝又把11月算作每年的第一个月。秦始皇统一天下以后，又把10月算作每年的第一个月，直到汉朝的汉武帝，才恢复夏朝的月份排列法，一直沿用到现在。这几代王朝更改了月份的次序，便把更改后的第一个月叫做“正月”。“正”就是改正的意思。在他们看来，既然他们作了皇帝，居了正位，一年十二个月的次序，也得跟着他们“正”过来。既然“正”是改正的意思，那么正月的“正”字，就应该读作“改正”的“正”字音，为什么人们却把它读作“长征”的“征”字音呢？因秦始皇姓赢名政，他觉得“正”字的读音同他的名字同音，说是犯了忌讳，就下令把“正月”读作“正（征）月”。后来人们习惯了，就一直沿用到现在。
4.腊月的由来
农历十二月为“腊月”，古时候也称“蜡月”。这种称谓与自然季候并没太多的关系，而主要是以岁时之祭祀有关。所谓“腊”，本为岁终的祭名。汉应劭《风俗通义》谓“夏曰嘉平，殷曰清祀，周用大蜡，汉改为腊。腊者，猎也，言田猎取禽兽，以祭祀其先祖也。”或曰：“腊者，接也，新故交接，故大祭以报功也。”这里所说的，不论是打猎后以禽兽祭祖，还是因新旧之交而祀神灵，反正都是要搞祭祀活动，所以说腊月是个“祭祀之月”。
